L5S1 Radiculopathy

Summary

  • Referred pain from L5/S1 disk bulge and impingement of nerve roots.

Diagnostic tips

  • Patient has not responded to typical plantar fasciitis treatment.
  • Pain can be generalised, with no specific tenderness on palpation.
  • Pain may be present non-weightbearing.

Tests and Imaging

  • EMG and Nerve conduction velocity. Absence of Hoffmann’s Reflex.
  • Lumbo-sacral imaging

Immediate Treatment

  • Analgesia, Gabapentin

Possible Referral

  • Physiotherapy for postural correction.
  • Pain clinic for caudal epidural injection.
