  • Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
  • Type I peripheral arthritis usually associated with 5 or less weightbearing joints.
  • Calcaneal enthesopathy at plantar fascia and achilles insertions.

Diagnostic tips

  • Arthritis, Spondylitis, Sacroiliitis, Enthesopathy, Osteoporosis, Hypertrophic Ostoarthropathy
  • Anaemia is common due to chronic disease and gastrointestinal blood loss.

Tests and Imaging

  • Elevated ESR and C-reactive protein.
  • Xray
  • HLA-B27 positive

Immediate Treatment

  • Anti-inflammatories – with care due to possible worsening bowel inflammation.
  • Immunosuppressants

Possible Referral

  • Podiatry for management of foot pain, splinting/orthotics, footwear advice and strengthening exercises.
